"The Place I Wanted to Be"

"The Place I Wanted to Be"

During his career in mechanical engineering management, Gerhard Roser became intimately acquainted with the moving parts that make machines function smoothly. So naturally, he noticed and appreciated the many elements that work in synchronicity to make The Glenridge such an amazing place to live.

Like the Performing Arts Center, for example, where he attends movies and performances regularly. . . The Glenridge Academy, where he recently took “History of China” and “Foreign Affairs” classes . . . and the Fitness Center, where, it should come as no surprise, he “likes the machines” and works out three times a week – usually lifting weights and using the stationary bike.

From Gerhard’s perspective, even the landscaping is impressive. “The view from my apartment window is a wonderful pond with a lot of birds, which I enjoy watching,” he says. “It’s fantastic.”

In addition, Gerhard notes, “I’ve met some very nice people here. I was amazed at some of the backgrounds they have. Some of them were executives and had lived all over the world. Others are retired military officers, admirals and generals. It’s a wonderful mix. I also found six or seven people right away with German backgrounds similar to mine, and I like that.”

Of course, even with his busy schedule, Gerhard hasn’t given up his passion for all things engineering. Using a rendering program on his home computer, he converts images of interesting buildings into three-dimensional objects that he can manipulate digitally. “It involves lots of mathematics,” he says. “It keeps your brain going!”

Gerhard, who visited a number of communities before choosing The Glenridge, sums it up by saying: “There simply was no comparison. From the very first impression, I knew this was the place I wanted to be.”
