James and Louise Pippenger epitomize what a Life Fulfilling Community® is all about. They’re vibrant, active, involved and engaged. They stay physically and intellectually fit – and they understand the importance of giving back.
So, the decision to move to The Glenridge came naturally. Here, they have the freedom to pursue their longtime passions – and the opportunity to find new ones.
James, who retired from a family-owned lumber retail business in Ohio, is a self-described “volunteer freak” who spent years serving in local government. Now, he leads visitor tours at The Glenridge as an ambassador. He also volunteers one day a week at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and belongs to Rotary. In fact, that organization’s motto (“Service Above Self”) is something James takes very literally. “I enjoy doing things for the community,” he says. “I’ve done it all my life.”
In addition to volunteer work, the Pippengers frequent the Fitness Center several times a week. “I go to the water aerobics class every chance I get,” Louise says. “One time we’ll focus on cardio; another time it will be balance. That hour in the pool is very refreshing.”
Louise is an avid golfer – and the couple maintains their membership at a nearby Sarasota country club, where she plays twice a week. “We enjoy the fresh air, exercise and companionship,” she adds. “And we constantly tell our friends how much we love living at The Glenridge. We have it all here!”
According to Louise, some of the community’s most brag-worthy features include the delicious food and spacious floor plans. “Our friends who visit us think the room sizes are very generous. They walk from room to room and say, ‘Oh, this is big!’”
But it wasn’t just the location, the amenities and beautiful surroundings that drew the couple to The Glenridge. “The other element that helped us make our decision was the continuing care facility,” Louise explains. “That’s very important when you’re our age.”
